What To Pack For a City Break

With the weather doing us wonders and the August bank holiday weekend fast approaching, we couldn’t be in a better mood. In fact, we’re in such high spirits we’ve decided it’s definitely time for another mini getaway (come on, it might be our last chance) . Plus, September has the perfect climate for a city break too, so there really couldn’t be a better time to squeeze in one final vacay before summer’s out.

Don’t worry, we already know what you’re thinking. So before you panic, here’s our definitive guide to hassle-free city break packing (you’re welcome).

First thing to think about? Comfort: there’ll be lots of walking, lots of sight-seeing and (probably) lots of getting lost, too, so a pair of comfortable shoes is an absolute must. Think sturdy but stylish flat pumps, ankle boots or even colourful suede All Stars that’ll go with everything from skinny jeans to a mini skater skirt. But since you’ll probably want to go to a trendy restaurant or bar in the evenings, don’t forget  to pack a pair of your best heels, too.

A decent-sized shoulder bag or a long-strap satchel - so you can have both hands free – are your best bet in terms of bags. Don’t forget you’ll be carrying around all your daily essentials, as well as a camera, so make sure there’s enough space.

Bearing in mind temperatures can change dramatically from day to night in a city, layering is key, too. Light jackets, thin knits or structured cardis are perfect for throwing over a shirt or dress when it gets a little more chilly. Then it’s all down to versatile items like skater dresses, silk tops, easy shirts and tailored shorts to make up the main part of your packing – they can easily be dressed up or down for double the wear. And of course, a pair of jeans will always come in handy – whether for walking around in the day or for a casual dinner.

Lastly, consider taking a statement piece of jewellery, a belt and a silk scarf to jazz up your basics for a glamorous night out. Even in the best metropolises you just never know where you’re going to end up, so be prepared.
