Pre-Season Picks: In-Between Pieces To Buy Now
Posted by StylokoSummer’s over, folks. Ok, so in terms of the weather, it seems as if it’s finally just begun, but in terms of fashion, it’s sadly coming to an end. Yes, it’s a real shame this is the first time anyone has been able to wear that sundress you bought back in April, but there are more exciting times ahead in the pre-season stakes, we promise.
And although we’re trying hard not to be pessimistic here, leaves (and rain) will start to fall in no time at all. So there’s no harm in getting a head start on the pre-autumn pieces that are already dropping, right?
Precisely. But before diving in, it’s worth taking into account the following key points that we think make for perfect transitional dressing.
1. Trousers
Swap your floral cigarette pants for geometric prints – they were on runways everywhere from Prada to Marc Jacobs, and they’re guaranteed to be big news all the way to winter. If you can’t ditch the flowers yet, though, invest in winter florals instead (i.e. bigger, more painterly buds in a darker palette).
2. Jackets
Lose the linen and opt for tailored blazers in a cotton mix. The key shape for autumn is oversized and boxy, but an elegant slim-cut jacket will always be stylish, so think about what you want to invest in.
3. Metallics
They’re season-less, and a great way to glam up an earthier palette.
4. Leather
Go for details and trims over full-on pants – they’ll add a tough-girl edge without suffocating you when the temperatures are still mild.
5. Textures
We’re not ready for wools and cashmeres (yet), so play with luxe fabrics like jacquard and silk, as seen at Christopher Kane, to keep things interesting.
