Peplum Pieces To Make A Serious Style Statement

Posted by Styloko

Fashion has never been about one size fits all, but if there was one trend this summer that flatters every shape, it has to be peplums. We mean, what’s not to like about smaller looking waists and daintily fuller hips? And if ever there was a chance for those lacking curves to gain some womanly definition, peplums are just the ticket. The trick? Just to choose a style that suits you and your existing wardrobe.

The great thing about the peplum is its versatility. Whether you’re a casual gal – The Row‘s striped cotton long sleeved tee is perfect for daytime – or a smart city worker, there are plenty of peplum choices to ponder over. While the organic, undulating curves of YSL and Givenchy were clear winners on the runway, the minimalist in us can’t help but be seduced by the structured simplicity of Céline’s version. For those who aren’t afraid to show off their feminine side, see Stella McCartney, Nina Ricci and Red Valentino for offerings in lace, but if, like us, you have doubts about looking too girly, then a sporty Peter Pilotto number or, perhaps, a Theyskens’ Theory leather top, are easier options.

So, feeling inspired to plump up your peplums? Take a look at our Peplums Scrapbook to see our pick of this season’s faves.  And if you need more tips, don’t miss Julia Neel’s trend report.
