Mulberry Name New Bag After Lana Del Rey For AW12
Posted by StylokoIt’s fitting that on the morning of Mulberry’s London Fashion Week show, the brand should unveil its hot-tipped bag for the new season. A clever marketing ploy to build pre-show hype, perhaps, but it’s worked: meet the Del Rey.
Wait, what? Yep, the super luxe label has named its newest bag after fledgling songstress Lana Del Rey (aka She Who Still Insists On Calling Herself A Gangster Nancy Sinatra).
It’s interesting to say the least. LDR’s spotlight is firmly on fashion’s radar – her fake Prada ad made everyone ooh and ahh, she’s signed to Next Model Management and she’s already bagged her first Vogue cover – but really, this is a massive gamble on Mulberry’s part to align themselves with such a split-opinion star while the rest of the world’s still deciding if she’s a fad.
But onto the bag. A classic in the making, the Del Rey has Hollywood roots in its strong, solid shape, but is spiced with English elegance – simple, practical and proportioned. It’s available in Deer Brown Grainy Print, Black Forest Soft Matte, Black Soft Spongy and Petrol Veg Tanned Lambskin leathers as part of the AW12 collection, with two more versions appearing on the runway today.
“I love the design, a perfect mix between old school Hollywood and contemporary style,” says Del Rey. “It’s an honour that such a classic and prestigious brand would name a bag after me.”
We’ll say. The Del Rey will be available at mulberry.com from May.
