Looking The Part: A Guide to Summer Occasion dressing
Posted by StylokoIt’s that time of year again, when suddenly all the pages in your diary are miraculously filled with weddings, races, BBQs, your best friend’s parents’ annual garden party… and more weddings. For many (us included), it’s the only time of year when the number of invitations actually exceed the number of dresses in their wardrobes, and the majority (that’s us again) go into a state of panic.
We’ve all been victims of the last minute party dress hunt – we know you don’t need reminding how frustrating it is when all you want is a sleeveless knee-length dress and all you can find are denim shorts and cropped tops on the rails. Not to mention the countless times we’ve ended up with an ill-fitting number in a dubious shade of brown (well it looked tan in the fitting room!).
Fear not, fellow party goers – we’ve got a strategy and we’re positive this year’s going to be different. Here’s what we’re thinking…
1. Invest in bright colours and textures, rather than bold prints which everyone can easily recognise and remember. Lace, for example, can add a chic, feminine twist to any summer outfit.
2. Think outside the box. We’re in the 21st century, it doesn’t always have to be skirts. Smart trouser suits in light colours, tailored jumpsuits or pants paired with a structured statement top will definitely make you stand out from the crowd.
3. Remember to accessorise. You can get more use from one piece by adding a bit of bling, whether it comes in the form of jewellery, a pair of shoes or an embellished clutch.
Still not convinced? Take a look at our Occasionwear Scrapbook to get a head start. Here’s to making everyone’s (eventful) lives a little easier. Cheers!
