Inside Mulberry AW12
Posted by StylokoYeah, so spring is here and we’re totally obsessed with our sun-inspired wardrobe, but fashion’s a fickle game, and just as a new season arrives, we’re being ushered onto the next.
And so it goes that we took a trip to Mulberry’s showroom yesterday to see the autumn/winter 2012 collection up close and personal, and yes, while that involved cooing over fur coats and winter boots just as the sun started shining, we’re not going to pretend we aren’t totally excited about planning our next season wardrobe (especially since the stuff will trickle into stores in just a couple of months anyway).
So, what should you go crazy for from the British label next season, you ask? Let us tell you.
Fur: Whether full-on yetti style on a coat, soft and printed across bags, lining a bonkers printed bomber or appearing glam and gothic on a cropped jacket.
Tigers: Mulberry’s fave animal print appears on silk blouses, chic day dresses and super-soft knits in a palette that’s more grown-up than spring’s trippy tiger version – but if it’s fun you want, you’ll find these cool cats cast in gold on bags too (like, we know).
Prints: Graphic, grainy flowers give a feminine edge to black lace dresses and quilted coats; more smudged versions look cool and contemporary on short suits and mid-dresses; and pebble prints look surprisingly edgy on bomber jackets and trousers.
Coats: We need a coat wardrobe like Mulberry’s. Next season the label wants you to wear every style going, from sporty bomber jackets to casual parkers, grown-up duffles to cropped shearling-lined aviators and, our personal fave, a knee-length alpaca overcoat that Alexa Chung’s worn to death already.
Colour: Pink and orange, specifically.
Boots: Especially the wooden-heeled ankle versions (they look similar to Acne’s Cypress style, non?).
Bags: This is obvious. Key new families to look out for are the the Bryn, a small, boxy satchel; the Hetty, a classic shoulder bag with chic grab handles; the Del Rey; and, our favourite, the Maisie, an achingly cool chain-strap bag with insanely clever embossed leather detailing replacing the buckles and hardware.
Time to start saving. Flick through our gallery below to see highlights from the new collection.
