How To Wear Summer Leather

Posted by Styloko

Leather in summer? Have we lost our mind? Well no, not quite. While leather may be regarded as an autumn staple, the spring/summer 2012 shows proved otherwise – quite persuasively, in fact – with an array of luxe leather pieces in fresh, summery hues. Which, you’ll be pleased to hear, makes it pretty much perfect for all this in between weather.

On the runway, Theyskens’ Theory gave us a light khaki jacket with a military feel, thanks to its oversized pockets and gathered waist; minus the sleeves, it becomes the perfect summer staple. Balmain, meanwhile, took a slightly Western approach, presenting leather in the shape of embellished button-up shirts, and Alexander Wang opted for sporty mini dresses featuring laser-cut motifs. In head-to-toe white, the look was transformed from party dress to summer dress.

Need a cue? Go for pieces in white or neutral colours to keep it season-appropriate – sleeveless jackets are a great way to work the trend if you’re a little leather shy (we love Topshop’s mushroom-hued biker version). Leather shorts are another stylish option for warm and windy days (either loose and tailored or sporty and perforated, preferably).
