The Replicator: 3D Printing at Home
Home 3D printing has been limited to the smallest of objects at the most premium of prices, but MakerBot sort to change that. Founded two years ago in New York, MakerBot’s previous projects (the Cupcake CNC in ’09 and the Thing-o-Matic a year later) achieved a lower price-point, but didn’t tackle the size issue. With the Replicator, MakerBot have changed the world of at-home printing again.

You still can’t print a car just yet, but the Replicator does take a step in that direction, moving from cupcake to bread-loaf sized objects. It also offers the option to print in two colours for the first time. You can use either ABS (the plastic found in Lego) or biodegradable PLA plastic for the material.

The Replicator will sell for $1,999 (aprox £1,290) for the dual-colour or $1,749 (aprox £1,130) for single-colour. It’s slated for release in ‘six weeks’.
